Silver Leaf
The community of Silver Leaf is the only site on the Boone Wilderness Trail actually named by Daniel Boone. He camped here and named the area Silver Maple because of the trees that he admired growing here. In the early 1800’s, Eli Davis, a local nurseryman, changed the name to Silver Leaf because he thought it sounded better.
holes. The station contained about half an acre of ground. The shape was a parallelogram. There were two fine springs near the station on its north side. The station was not reoccupied after 1776, or during the Revolutionary War. In fact, the Cherokee had run the garrison out a second time not long after it was completed when all the Lee County forts west of Rocky Station were evacuated in 1776. This site became known as Martin’s Old Station when as a General in the Militia he later built a newer fortification west of here.
